IN THE LAND OF THE RISING SUN: AJP HEATS THINGS UP IN JAPAN WITH TWO BIG TOURNAMENTSa year ago

December 7, 2023

The countless hours spent training by Japanese athletes will finally be put to the test in their homeland. In the coming weeks, the AJP brings the fires of competition to the Land of the Rising Sun, promoting not one but two high-profile tournaments in the capital of Tokyo and welcoming both local and foreign fighters in the upcoming championships.

In the second week of 2024, specifically on January 13th and 14th, the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam finally makes its way back to Japan after a few seasons away. The battlefield will be the Ota Gymnasium, which will receive the AJP mats to welcome the battle-hardened athletes, each one hungry to fight in this season's first ADGS and to claim the points needed to get a headstart in the rankings. The tournament starts on January 13th, greeting Amateurs and Masters as they join the fray and fight for glory in the Nipponic arena. On the second and last day, January 14th, Professionals from the purple to the black belt will take the stage with the awe-inspiring performances that fight fans already know to expect.

But while the ADGS is still a few weeks away, the action will reach the Japanese shores much sooner. As both an outstanding warm-up and a prelude to the battles that will take place in January, the AJP Tour Tokyo International Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2023 is locked and loaded for this weekend, December 9th and 10th. Over the course of both days, the Sumida City Gymnasium will be the stage that gives competitors a chance to test their skills and take their first few steps in the coveted AJP rankings. The tournament will welcome one and all in its roster, allowing athletes of all ages, graduations, and weight divisions to have a shot at the spotlight.
