July 3, 2023
Two competitions on two different continents is how the AJP decided to kick off the month of July. Now with all said and done, we take the chance to look back on the first weekend of the month and see which performances are worth remembering as we move on to the next competitions. Check out below the highlights of each championship!
Rodrigo Ribeiro is the Master champion of the Armenia National
Taking place during both days of the weekend, the AJP Tour Armenia National Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2023 reached the city of Yerevan, where its no-gi action completely took over the Dynamo Sports Club. With three fight areas spread across the arena, athletes from all ages steeled their resolve and stepped onto the organization’s mats, aiming to add another gold medal to their names.
While the event was mostly populated by colored belts, one Brazilian black belt fought fiercely and became the event's highlight. Rodrigo Ribeiro (A.F.N.T) was far from home, but that didn’t stop him from going full throttle to the Master 120kg division. Standing across from him, the Lithuanian Vitalij Draciov (Checkmat International) was gunning for the title but found himself unable to contain Rodrigo, who scored 5 points before landing a decisive submission to secure his spot atop the podium.

Sebastian Guevara and Flor Chavez take the Professional gold in Guadalajara
On Saturday, July 1st, athletes of all ages and graduations put their skills to the test in the AJP Tour Guadalajara International Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2023. With the Parque Estrellas as the stage, the tournament welcomed every warrior with the courage to step onto its mats, giving yet another chance for competitors to earn the title of champion in the federation.
On the men’s side, Colombian Sebastian Guevara (Art of Jiu Jitsu) went through the 85kg bracket like a freight train, coming out on top of a round-robin with two submissions. First, he dominated Mexican Mario Navarrete (Wolfpack Jiu Jitsu Mexico) by putting the score at 24-0 before submitting. Then, in the final, Sebastian was once again unstoppable as he landed point after point before tapping out Ricardo Rea (Alliance).
Local Flor Chavez (Wolfpack Jiu Jitsu Mexico) was the women’s highlight. In a one-match bracket, Flor saw her game flourish as she went up against fellow countrywoman Leticia Preciado (Brasa Felipe Costa) and used the full regulated time to assert her victory. When the time was up, a 16-0 granted Flor the 70kg gold medal.
