In the first weekend of August, AJP has turned its gaze to the American continent, with two stellar competitions for fight fans to enjoy. Now, with the fighting wrapped up and the champions standing on their respective podiums, check out below the highlights of each championship!
Mario Carrasco and Ricardo Rea take the black belt title in Mexico
This Saturday, August 5th, the AJP Tour Chihuahua International Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2023 landed in Mexico and brought about a thrilling day of competition. Athletes from all over marched on to the Polideportivo Francisco Portillo, where two fight areas were set up for the matches of the day.
Two Mexican black belts showed their skills and became the highlights of the event. First, in the 69kg division, Mario Carrasco (CSW) used his technical know-how to defeat fellow country Mario Navarrete (Wolfpack Jiu Jitsu Mexico) by a 5-2 score, taking the win and the division gold. Then, in another duel between locals, Ricardo Rea (Alliance) fought a very balanced match against Hector Valdez (Bujutsu), closing the scoreboard at 5-5 and taking the win by scoring last.

Higor Lima and Wallace Costa take the double gold at the North Brazil Regional
On the following Sunday, August 6th, the city of Belém geared up to receive the AJP Tour North Brazil Regional Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2023. With five fight areas set up in the Ginásio da CESEP, Brazilian athletes took to the mats and put their skills to the test within the world-renowned organization.
Taking the competition by storm, two athletes rose as the highlights of the day by attaining the coveted double gold. One of them was Higor Lima (Hunters Brazilian Jiu Jitsu), who first took the 77kg title by outscoring Erick Chaves (Squadron), 6-3. Then, in the Open Lightweight, Higor faced Bruno Teixeira (Tapajós Fight Jiu-Jitsu) in the final, taking his second gold by a 6-5 score.
On the heavier side, Wallace Costa (GFTeam) had his first triumph in the 120kg bracket, after closing a round-robin with a 6-1 against Eldeson Silva (Nova União International). Then, in the Open Heavyweight division, four matches stood between him and the absolute title. In the final round, a rematch against Eldeson Silva once again ended in victory for Wallace, with a well-placed submission to take his final title at the tournament.
