AJP PORTUGAL NATIONAL: PEDRO CADETE, GRACE FERLA AND MORE PORTUGUESE ATHLETES TAKE THE STAGE IN CASCAISa year ago

On this Sunday, July 23rd, the AJP Tour Portugal National Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2023 landed in the city of Cascais, bringing with it the fires of competition to the European country. Many battles ensued in the seven fight areas set up at the Pavilhão Guilherme Pinto Basto, with athletes from all ages and graduations putting their skills and training to the test against each other, gunning for the shiny gold medals and the prestige of standing atop AJP podiums.

Among the many champions that rose to prominence in the tournament, Portuguese athletes Pedro Cadete and Grace Ferla put on outstanding performances and showcased their technical prowess, for the joy of the fans watching in the arena and those following the event live at AJPTour.Tv. MEN’S GI / BLACK / PROFESSIONAL
62kg: Isaac Miranda vs. Marcio Antonio

In a Brazil vs. Angola clash, the Brazilian Isaac Miranda, from the Wish Roll team, came out on top against the Angolan Marcio Antonio, an athlete representing the Brazilian Power Team. The battle was balanced but Isaac managed to snag the win with a 1-0 score to take the gold.

69kg: Gabriel Muguet vs. Hemerson Santos

In the 69kg division, Brazilian Gabriel Muguet got the better of fellow countryman Hemerson Santos. After going down and sliding to the back, Gabriel wasted no time and positioned his hand on the collar, strangling his opponent for the division gold.

77kg: Matheus Rangel vs. Alberto Guzman

An intense duel between Matheus and Alberto. Matheus kicked off the match by pulling guard, attempting a back take, and then going up with a sweep. Ahead by 3-0 after his initial advance, he then passed the guard and nearly mounted, raising the score to 7-0. Alberto managed to escape from his opponent’s grip and even got on top, but Matheus swept and took control of the single-leg, closing the scoreboard at 9-0.

85kg: Antonio Alencar vs. Wilkler Marques

Local athlete Antonio Alencar kept the 85kg division gold in Portugal. After pulling Wilkler into guard and going up with two points, he attempted a choke and a back take, raising the score to 4-0. Wilkler fought back and managed to score three points by passing the guard, but was penalized because of an illegal grip on the pants. Antonio then managed to go up once again, landing another point and taking the win by a 6-3 score.

94kg: Matheus Vetoraci vs. Felipe Silva

Matheus Vetoraci added another victory to his name in Portugal. After feinting and using a seoi-nage to take Felipe Silva down, Matheus went for the arm and locked a triangle, submitting his opponent in the first few minutes of the match to take the gold.

120kg: Pedro Cadete vs. Marco Pereira

Representing the host country, Pedro Cadete scored big at the Portugal National. After Marco Pereira almost swept to open the scoreboard at 1-0, Pedro began his rampage. With two guard pass attempts, Pedro gained the lead by 2-1. He then went straight for the mount, earning three points for the guard pass and another four by mounting. Marco managed to escape the mount and got up, but Pedro swept to add another two points to the count, closing the scoreboard at 11-1 to take the 120kg gold.

WOMEN’S GI / BROWN / BLACK / PROFESSIONAL
62kg: Yasmin Pessanha vs. Carmen Vieira

A quick win for Yasmin Pessanha in the 62kg division. After pulling Carmen into her guard, Yasmin went straight for the arm and, with Carmen’s wrist under her armpit, locked a precise armbar less than a minute into the fight.

70kg: Gabriela Pereira vs. Magdalena Loska

Gabriela took the title after overcoming Magdalena’s closed guard, which she pulled right at the start of the match. By moving her hips, Gabriela created enough space to open the guard and reach the side, increasing her lead after a penalty suffered by Magdalena. At the end of the match, a 4-0 score signaled Gabriela’s win.

95kg: Grace Ferla vs. Emily Eyles

The Portuguese Grace Ferla seized the initiative and took the win via points by pulling Emily Eyles into the guard and then sweeping up. Emily later received a penalty because of an illegal grip on the pants. With the scoreboard at 3-0, Grace took the win and the 95kg gold.
