WEEKEND RECAP: AJP TURNS THEIR SIGHTS TO LITHUANIA, BENGUELA, EINDHOVEN, AND ODESAa year ago

In another action-packed weekend, AJP had yet another batch of tournaments spread out across the globe, for the joy of fight fans and athletes alike. Check out below the highlights of each championship!

KRZYSZTOF SUCHORABSKI BECOMES THE ABSOLUTE CHAMPION AT THE LITHUANIA NATIONAL 2023

On Saturday, April 29th, the Klaipėda athletics arena was the stage for the AJP Tour Lithuania National Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2023. The European country received athletes of all ages and graduations to test their skills and rise through the organization’s ranks as they evolve in the sport.

Standing as the highlight of the event, Polish athlete Krzysztof Suchorabski (Copacabana Fight Club) overcame three opponents and emerged as the absolute champion. After beating the 94kg gold medalist Janis Tilibs (Strela Team) by disqualification, Krzysztof quickly submitted Emirati Yousof Alhosani (ADNOC) to reach the final round. In the last fight of the bracket, Krzysztof went up against the 85kg division champion Igor Dziag (Gracie Barra Birmingham), taking the win via referee decision.

MARINALDO, ALFREDO, AND AMERICO TAKE THE BLACK BELT TITLES AT THE BENGUELA INTERNATIONAL 2023

Still on Saturday, the AJP Tour Benguela International Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2023 was heating things up in Angola. In a battlefield comprising three fight areas spread out across the Pavilhão Acácias Rubras, colored and black belts duked it out and showed their prowess to take home the coveted gold medals.

Among all the competing athletes, three Angolan black belts rose to prominence in the event. First, in the Professional 85kg, Marinaldo Moraes (GFTeam) scored 5-0 to defeat fellow countryman Helio Gonçalves (Z1 Academy) and take the gold. Then, Alfredo Jacques (Z1 Academy) used his technique to put the scoreboard at 5-1 against Walter Coelho (Brazilian Power Team International), becoming the Professional 120kg division champion. Finally, at the Master 1 85kg, Americo dos Santos (Aliança do Tatame Angola) wasted no time in landing a 5-0 score before submitting Nilson Coelho (Z1 Academy) to take his spot atop the podium.

AHMED LAARIBI ADDS ANOTHER GOLD TO HIS COLLECTION AT THE EINDHOVEN INTERNATIONAL 2023

Back in Europe, the AJP Tour Eindhoven International Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2023 was held in the Netherlands last Saturday, April 29th. With the Indoor Sportcentrum Eindhoven as the stage, warriors with and without the gi showed their resolve as they stepped onto the mats and showed the results of their training.

Tunisian black belt Ahmed Laaribi (Atos) was the highlight. In a round-robin, Ahmed started by landing a 10-2 score before submitting the German Tim Hinrichs (BJJ Akademie Berlin). In the final round, the Atos athlete went up against Brazilian Marco Aurelio (Saikoo) in a match that ended in favor of Ahmed by 3-0 on the scoreboard.

PAVLO TOVSTOPYATKO CONQUERS THE DOUBLE GOLD AT THE ODESA INTERNATIONAL 2023

On Sunday, April 30th, the AJP Tour Odesa International Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2023 gave Ukrainian colored belts a chance to shine. Gi or No-Gi, athletes from all ages flocked over to the Sportyvnyy Kompleks Mizhnarodnoho Humanitarnoho Universytetu, aiming to gain both the experience and notoriety needed to take their Jiu-Jitsu to the next level.

Ukrainian purple belt Pavlo Tovstopyatko (FAJR - TEAM) faced Japanese teammate Diaz Dashkovskiy twice on his way to the gold. First, in the Professional 94kg, Pavlo scored 8-1 and took his first title. Then, in the Open Heavyweight, Pavlo once again emerged as the winner, with a score of 10-0.
