WEEKEND RECAP: EUROPEAN TOURNAMENTS SHAKE THINGS UP IN GERMANY AND CROATIAa year ago

Another weekend came and went, bringing with it two stellar competitions held in the European continent. In both Germany and Croatia, athletes of all ages and graduations were welcomed to step onto the mats and put their skills to the test. With all said and done, check out below the highlights of each championship!

**AJP Tour Hamburg International Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2023: Professional black belts steal the show in Germany

On Saturday, August 26th, the Sporthalle Wandsbek was highlighted by the professional black belt matches. Starting in the men’s side, the 77kg division saw Ahmed Laribi (Europe Nova Jiu-Jitsu Team) take its gold after outscoring Mahmoud Ghul (The Dojo Academy) by 8-0. In the 85kg category, Tim Hinrichs (BJJ Akademie Berlin) seized the title after submitting Burak Basak (PSLPB Cícero Costha). Lastly, Harry Loseby (Carlson Gracie Jiu Jitsu Team) fought twice before reaching the finals and beating Eldar Rafigaev (Jungle BJJ) by 1-0.

On the female side, Delfina Francisco (Academia CP) submitted Lisa Mundt (GFTeam) for the 62kg division gold. Then, in the 95kg bracket, Darina Golden (Gracie Berlin) scored last to defeat Nicole Urschinger (Art of Flow Austria).

AJP Tour Split International Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2023: Lovre Jurin and Luka Skoric keep the black belt titles in Croatia

On that same Saturday, two Croatian athletes brought joy to the local fight fans with a show of skills and techniques that shook the Hall Gripe and brought the gold medals to the host country. First, in the 94kg division, Lovre Jurin (Checkmat International) dominated the bracket by submitting Alen Ramic (Gracie Barra Graz) in the semifinals and then outscoring Lajos Nemeth (Zr Team Association) by 8-1 to seize the title.

Then, Luka Skoric (Mladost BD) put on a lesson in overcoming challenges in the 120kg. After losing in the first match of the round-robin against Matteo Parolin (Stance), Luka pulled all the stops to show his true potential, beating Jure Kulisic (Jiu Jitsu Academy Split) by a tight 7-6. At the final round, Luka once again went up against Matteo, but this time the scales tipped in favor of the former, with a 7-3 score lifting the athlete to the top of the podium.
